Following repetitive post viral fatigue from contracting the common cold, I eventually crashed with M.E (as it was called in those days) but because my background was in health and social care, I realised what had happened to me and was therefore able to recognise what I needed to do to recover.

There is no magic to recovery, it is following specific steps and strategies, and recognising what things are actually getting in the way of the body healing naturally.

My aim is to give you the tools and strategies needed for a healthy recovery from Long Covid and other causes.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome ( CFS) or M.E is not tiredness, it is your body shutting down and trapped in the "sickness loop". Long Covid

The Chapter that got away!!

When I first had M.E. as it was called in 2003, I only had my own endless internal dialogue and my GP telling me I would recover. Whilst I had moments of complete devastation and fear, ultimately I always held onto the belief that I would recover because I assumed the illness was recoverable from. It came as a shock when I relapsed a few years later, to be referred to the CFS Specialist team who told me I had to accept I would never fully recover and could only be helped on the NHS when I accepted this. Their belief was, that people don’t recover from CFS and will at best have periods of remission and then relapses or stay with no remission. To fight against that was, to quote “ only going to make you depressed”. In fact being brainwashed into submission makes people give up, despair and accept their limitations. I know I and n many like me, became hopeless and helpless because of what they were saying…another term for hopeless/ helpless is depressed- the very thing they said they were trying to stop happening!

      As a former lecturer in Health and Social Care, a therapist and an experienced practitioner running her own ‘Reset to Thrive’ Recovery Programme, Jan Rothney shares her expertise and first-hand experience about recovering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Long Covid.
